The Louisa Lions’ cross country teams competed in a pair of meets last week, racing against Jefferson District opponents on Sept. 15 and competing in an invitational meet at Fork Union Military Academy on Sept. 18.
The Sept. 15 meet, which wass hosted by Goochland, saw the Lions rage against the Goochland, Fluvanna, and Orange cross country teams. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams brought home wins for Louisa.
In the boys’ race, Caiden Davenport took first place with a time of 17:39, finishing just ahead of teammate Nick Emmert (17:40). Taylen Soriano ran the course in 19 minutes flat to round out the top three and William Moore finished 10th with a time of 20:10. Gavin Myers finished 15th with a time of 20:50 to complete the Lions’ team score.
The Lions finished first with 31 points. Orange finished second with 38, followed by Fluvanna with 62 and Goochland with 87.
Other runners for Louisa included Brice Wilson (21:38) Coleman Frankart (21:43), Patrick Moore (21:58), Brandon Smith (23:26), Jonathan Paschal (24:56), Layton Prescott (25:34), Justin Davenport (25:45) and Adam Cleale (30:19).
In the ‘ race, Kennedy Harris was the first Lion across the finish line, coming in second with a time of 22:20, three seconds behind Fluvanna’s Sophie Farley. Maeve Myers, Caroline Chapman, and Alison Soriano finished fourth, fifth and sixth with respective times of 24:33, 24:36 and 24:46. Madison Corral placed 12th with a time of 27:15 to complete Louisa’s team score. Yelena Nguyen (28:09) and Abigail Bryant (32:05) also ran for the Lions.
Louisa won the team competition with a score of 28. Goochland finished second with 46 and Fluvanna was third with 51.
The Lions traveled to Fork Union for their next meet, racing against athletes from more than 20 schools around the state.
Emmert led the boys’ team with a second place finish and a time of 16:06. Davenport finished 23rd with a time of 175:26 and William Moore followed in 35th with a time of 17:53. Taylen Soriano (18:57) and Gavin Myers (20:04) completed Louisa’s team score with respective 77th and 113th place finishes. Patrick Moore (21:45) and Brandon Wallace (23:32) also ran for Louisa.
Harris led the Louisa girls with a season best time of 21:04, finishing 29th. Maeve Myers finished 56th with a time of 22:58, and Chapman, Alison Soriano and Pleasants finished in 75th, 77th and 79th to round out Louisa’s team score. Chapman finished in 24:16, Soriano ran a season best 24:23 and Pleasants finished in 24:24. Corral (26:27) and Nguyen (26:54) also ran for the Lions.
Louisa’s boys’ team finished eighth out of 25 teams with a score of 243, one point ahead of Spotsylvania. The girls’ team finished 12th with a score of 281.
The Lions traveled to Panorama Farms on Sept. 22 for a district race with Albemarle, Fluvanna and Monticello. Results of the meet were unavailable at press time. They take on the Flucos again on Sept. 29 at Pleasant Grove Park in Palmyra. Races begin at 5 p.m.
