Louisa County will be among the teams represented at the Virginia Senior League baseball state tournament next month.
Louisa’s senior league all-star team won the District 14 championship on June 21 with a 16-3 victory over Culpeper’s all-star team. The double-elimination tournament began on June 18 with Louisa defeating Culpeper 15-2, then topping East Orange 21-2 to advance to the championship game.
This year’s state tournament is being held in Castlewood, with opening ceremonies scheduled for July 7. Games begin on July 8.
Most of Louisa’s all-star teams have concluded their district tournaments, but the Major League baseball tournament is still going on, with pool play ending on June 29. Final results of the pool portion of the tournament were unavailable at press time. Louisa’s all-stars were 2-1 heading into Wednesday’s game against East Orange, having defeated Culpeper 11-2 on June 28 and Monticello 17-6 on June 25. Their loss came in a close 4-3 contest with McIntire on June 26.
The top four teams after pool play will move on to the double-elimination tournament, which will be played on Luck Field in Mineral beginning July 2.
