The Louisa County High School track and field teams hosted their second mini-invite of the season Wednesday, with the Lion girls winning by a large margin and the Louisa boys placing third.
The girls amassed 183.5 points to outdistance second-place Charlottesville (111.5), third-place Caroline (73) and Western Albemarle (68). Maggie Walker (50), Patrick Henry-Ashland (20) and Goochland (2) also competed.
The boys (98.5) were a close second to Charlottesville (103), but Caroline (138) took the boys’ portion of the meet. The Lions finished just ahead of Western Albemarle (95.5). Patrick Henry (47) and Maggie Walker (33) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
William Moore led the Louisa boys, winning both the 1600 (a season-best 4:38.04) and the 3200 (10:45.77).
Hayden Ribbentrop took first in the 300 hurdles (43.16) and the Lions’ 4 x 800 relay team of Gavin Myers, Wyatt Snyder, Aaron Pugh and Nathaniel Wilson (9:07.43) finished first for the boys’ third event win.
Gavin Myers was second in the 3200 (10:54.73), while the Lions’ 4 x 400 relay team (Hayden Pugh, Wyatt Snyder, Tristen Athey and Nathaniel Wilson) also finished second (3:47.11).
Jayden Thompson (41’ 11”) was third in the shot put, followed by Devonte Anderson (39’ 1”) in fourth. Justin Davenport was third in the pole vault (11’ 6”), Aaron Pugh was third in the 400 (55.51) and Hayden Pugh was third in the 800 (2:11.02). Snyder was fourth in the triple jump (38’ 9”). Ribbentrop was fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.83).

The Lions’ girls won eight events, led by Taylor Waddy and Arianna Jones taking two events each.
Jones won the 100 (13.72) and the 200 (27.45), while Waddy won the shot put (35’ 2”) and the discus (105’ 10”).
The girls’ 4 x 800 relay team (Elizabeth Middlesworth, Sandra Davenport, Caroline Chapman and Maeve Myers) finished first (10:43.05), more than half a minute better than second-place Charlottesville.
Myers also won the 800 (2:33.93), and Brooklyn Nemec took the 3200 (14:23.40).
Angel David won the triple jump (35’ 3”) and was second in the long jump (16’ 1”).
Amamira Jones was second in the 800 (2:37.95), followed by Kennedy Harris in third (2:41.03). Middlesworth ran 1:03.99 to place third in the 400.
Harris ran a season-best 5:41.72 to finish second in the 1600, while Madison Gardener recorded a season-best in the 3200 (15:37.67) to place third. Salima Imamutdinov (17.15.46) and Chloe Cajigas (17:18.74) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Angel David was second in the 100 hurdles (17.57) and Marion Zimmerman was fourth (18.37). David also finished fourth in the 300 hurdles (50.79).
The girls’ 4 x 400 relay team was second (4:33.90) and the 4 x 100 relay team ran a season-best 52.35 to place fourth.
Anari Harris was fourth in the high jump (4’ 9”), with Dana Freimane fifth (4’ 9”).
Hannah Ryan was third in the pole vault (9’), while Kalile Shelton was third in the discus (84’ 7”) and Langley Amiss fifth (78’ 7”). Makayla Clark added a fourth in the shot put (28’ 10”).
The Louisa girls posted nine season-bests Wednesday. In addition to the aforementioned results, the following Lions posted their best results of the season: Natalie Spencer (shot put, 21’ 8”); Freimane (long jump, 14’ 6”); Hannah Ryan (high jump, 4’ 7” and 200, 28.53); Emma Ryan (300 hurdles, 1:00.11); Lilian Liles (1600, 6:09.98); and Teneya Scott (100, 14.81).
Hunter Matney recorded his best results of the season for the boys in the shot put (34’ 10”) and discus (80’ 3”).

Last weekend, the Lions traveled to Lannigan Field at the University of Virginia to compete against more than 180 other schools in the 2023 Dogwood Track Classic.
Competing against some of the best track and field athletes from the Mid-Atlantic, the Lions recorded a number of top-10 finishes in deep fields, led by Justin Davenport’s third-place finish in the pole vault (12’ 6”). Anari Harris was fifth in the high jump (4’ 10”) for the Lions’ other top individual performance. The girls’ 4 x 800 relay team was fifth (a season-best 9:49.77), while the spring medley relay team was eighth (4:31.10, a season-best). The boys’ 4 x 800 relay team placed ninth (8:21.56, a season-best).
Taylor Waddy was 11th in the shot put (34’ 5”) and 17th in the discus (96’ 10”). Dana Freimane was 15th in the high jump (4’ 8”) and Angel David was 20th in the triple jump (34’ 5”).
Savion Hiter was 12th in the long jump (21’ 4.75”) and 19th in the triple jump (a season-best 41’ 0.25”).
William Moore (800, 2:01.05), Gavin Myers (3200, 10:39.81), the boy’s spring medley relay (3:48.12) and the 4 x 400 relay (3:33.65) all posted season-best results.
For the girls, Arianna Jones (200, 26.59), Kennedy Harris (12:06.66), Lillian Liles (3200, 13:05.12), the 4 x 100 relay (51.58), the 4 x 400 relay (4:22.83) and the distance medley relay (13:27.39) all recorded season-best times.
The Lions next compete Wednesday, May 10, in the Jefferson District Championship.
