Football game this Friday canceled due to COVID-19

Fans await the start of the Louisa Lions' home opener against Courtland on Sept. 3.

The Louisa County High School varsity football team will play King George High School this Friday at home instead of Massaponax, which canceled due to a COVID-19 outbreak at their school.

Lions Athletic Director George Stanley announced the change in an email at 10:30 a.m., one day after he said the Massaponax game was off.

The King George game will start at 7:30 p.m.

Stanley said he received a call on Sunday about the issue from his counterparts at Massaponax, advising that their team would not be able to play. The junior varsity football game between the two schools scheduled for Tuesday was also canceled.

"Please know that there are other school divisions dealing with COVID-19 issues, and in some close localities, there are teams who have yet to play a football game this season," Stanley said. "Our plans are fluid and things can change at a moment’s notice. I encourage everyone to continue to practice healthy habits both inside and outside of our buildings."

Louisa is 2-0 after wins at Huguenot and at home last Friday over Courtland.
