Warren Ashley Dickinson (W.A.)

Warren Ashley Dickinson (W.A.) on October 24, 2026 found relief, peace, love, and joy as he entered into God’s embrace, following a brave three year medical battle. W. A. was born on August 21, 1953, in Louisa, VA and grew up in the Wares’ Crossroads area of Louisa County.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Bettye Gilbert Dickinson; loving children, Warren Ashley (“Ash”) Dickinson, Il (Laura) of Richmond and Tyler Cabell Dickinson Luther (Andrew) of Glen Allen; and adoring grandchildren, Willow Allison Dickinson, Monroe Markley Dickinson Luther, and Maddox Andrew Broadus Luther; and sister, Patsy Dickinson Holley (Everett) of Zion’s Crossroads, and two nieces, Andrea Lynn Holley, of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Carey Holley Vandygriff of Krum, Texas.

W.A. was predeceased by his parents, Curtis Carlton Dickinson of Mineral and Leora Marie Payne Dickinson of Spotsylvania.

W.A. graduated from Louisa County High School and Germanna Community College. Following graduation, W.A. worked in the Accounting Department for Stone and Webster Engineering and then Dominion Resources in conjunction with being the owner and operator of Dickinson’s Store, a landmark location at Ware’s Crossroads, for over 47 years. Established in 1863, this store was passed down in the Ware and Dickinson families for five generations. Additionally, W.A. was the managing partner of Dickinson’s Store Mini-Storage, LLC.

W.A. was a committed husband, father, son, grandfather, and friend.

He loved living in Louisa County and on the shores of Lake Anna. He had developed strong relationships with friends, neighbors, former classmates, and vendors who frequented Dickinson’s Store. He was a humble man who cared about others, never needed recognition for what he did or how he treated others throughout his life.

His commitment to the Lake Anna community was recognized when he was named Lake Anna Business Person of the Year in 2011. In July 2022, the Louisa County Board of Supervisors honored him with a resolution acknowledging the history and success of Dickinson’s Store.

For six consecutive years, the store was voted the Best Convenience Store in Louisa County by The Central Virginian.

W.A. enjoyed a variety of pastimes and adventures: traveling, participating in water sports and boating, playing group board and card games, gathering at Gilboa Christian Church for their community dinners, and attending the University of Virginia football games. He was a true automotive enthusiast and could effortlessly recall the make, year, and model of vehicles from classic to current. W.A. was a true animal lover and had developed special bonds with the family’s four dogs and three cats.

Throughout his career, WA was an active community supporter serving as President of the Louisa Lions Club and members of both the Lake Anna Business Partnership and the Louisa County Chamber of Commerce.

W.A. was a member of the Louisa United Methodist Church in Louisa, Virginia. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 30, at Louisa United Methodist Church from 3:00-6:30 PM; the funeral service will take place on Sunday, November 1, at 2:00 PM with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery in Louisa followed by a buffet lunch at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in W.A.’s Memory to: Foundation for LKA EMS, P.O. Box 1021, Louisa, VA 23093; donations will help fund an underwater drone to support the Station 8 rescue boat.
