LCPS pauses new school progress as it awaits Valley Link decision
The Louisa County Public Schools (LCPS) school board voted on the site for the fifth elementary school at the September 2 meeting, but chose to pause progress as they await an update on which route Valley Link decides to build the 115-mile 765-kilovolt (kV) Joshua Falls to Yeat Transmission Line Project planned to extend from Campbell to Culpeper County.
Setting new records
The Louisa County Public Schools (LCPS) school board recognized the LCPS School Nutrition team at the September 1 board meeting. From June 8 through July 23, more than 20 staff and volunteers served over 68,000 meals at nearly a dozen locations across Louisa County. The group served 1,133 meals on the first day and served a total of 68,356 meals, a new record for the district in their summer meals program. “We wanted to say thank you for the great work you do, taking the time out of your summer to make this happen for so many across our Louisa community,” LCPS Superintendent Doug Straley said. “You are changing lives and making a big difference.”

The Louisa Education Foundation (LEF), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students and teachers in Louisa County, announces that its Teacher Grants Matching Campaign has reached the halfway mark, bringing LEF one step closer to unlocking full funding potential.
School board talks traffic impact of potential fifth elementary school
Increasing enrollment, future projections and capacities of existing facilities, as well as the potential site of a new elementary school — the fifth in the county — have been frequent discussions at recent Louisa County Public Schools (LCPS) school board meetings. During the August 4 meeting, Thomas Ruff, a traffic engineer with Timmons Group, shared updates on the traffic impact regarding the potential site of the new elementary school.
Stuff the Bus Success
Stuff the Bus is Louisa County Public Schools (LCPS) annual school supplies drive held at the Walmart in Zion Crossroads. Volunteers for the event included administrators, students, parents, community partners, and the Louisa County High School band. This year, they collected 123 boxes worth of supplies, which was a new record for the event. The supplies will now be distributed to each of the six schools in LCPS to support families this year.
Registration open for Louisa GED classes
It is Time to Give Yourself a Raise! The Thomas Jefferson Adult Career Education (TJACE) @pvcc the Louisa Center located at 115 Jefferson Highway (Sage Building, Suite 108 and 109) is announcing that the 2026-27 GED preparation classes and Computer Skills Lab will start August 10, 2026 with registration and classes to begin August 24, 2026. Please call (540) 938-4729, for an appointment to register. Classes are Monday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Online learning is an option to fit different schedules. You must come in-person to register.
