Thomas Lorenzo Buckner

Thomas Lorenzo Buckner, a devoted and cherished friend to many, passed away on Sunday, April 26, at the age of 81. He was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing.
Born in Charlottesville, VA, Tom was raised with strong values of hard work and dedication. As a young boy, he worked alongside his father on the family farm, where he learned the importance of responsibility, perseverance, and pride. He was educated in the Louisa County Public School System and attended A.G. Richardson High School, where he later graduated and explored several trades while working in Washington, D.C.
It was during his early years that Tom discovered a passion for electrical work—a calling that would shape his life’s journey. By the age of 21, he had begun pursuing his interest in the electrical trade and continued to grow in his craft throughout his career. Tom traveled across many states throughout his career, leaving a lasting mark not only through his craftsmanship but also through the relationships he built along the way. He worked as a Master Electrician and was a long-standing and proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 666.
Tom had a gift for connecting with people. He developed friendships easily and was known for his fun-loving spirit, warm personality, generosity, and unmistakable charm. Whether on a job site or among family and friends, he brought laughter, wisdom, and authenticity to every space he entered.
A natural teacher at heart, Tom took pride in mentoring others and sharing his knowledge. He was passionate about expressing his thoughts and feelings on many topics, always speaking from the heart and encouraging others to do the same. He deeply loved his church family and found great joy in being part of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church community. He was faithful in attending Sunday School and church events. Tom remained curious about the Bible and spirituality, often engaging in thoughtful conversations and reflection about faith, purpose, and life. His openness and curiosity about God’s word added another meaningful layer to his character and the way he connected with others.
Above all, Tom cherished his family. His life reflected love, commitment, and connection across every chapter. He was first married to Joyce and was blessed with two sons. He later shared a meaningful relationship with Mildred Carter, with whom he was blessed with a beloved daughter. In another chapter of his life, he found companionship with his devoted and long-time partner, Reatha Mae Jackson, whose family he embraced wholeheartedly and loved as his own. He shared a very special bond with his “bonus son,” Marvin Shelton and bonus daughters, Sheila and Anita. Through his love and leadership, he fostered unity among all, creating a blended family grounded in respect, love, and genuine care for one another.
Left with loving memories and grateful hearts are his children, Thomas Buckner, Jr., Terryington Buckner, and Mia Buckner; his grandchildren, Theodore Hunter, Miyanna Hunter, Destiny Hunter, Anaje Paschall, Ocie Smith, Senika McNair, Tanis McNair, Taleese McNair, Mia McNair, and Monique McNair; two great-grandchildren, Anthony Smith and Mya Saucedo; his brother, Otis Buckner (Teresa); and many other relatives and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Ruby Buckner; his son, Anthony McNair (Ada); his devoted and long-time partner, Reatha Mae Jackson; and many other relatives and friends.
Tom’s legacy of hard work, love, laughter, connection, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His life was a testament to the belief that family is defined by love, not circumstance. He shared meaningful relationships over the years and was blessed with children from those unions, each of whom he cherished deeply. Tom will be remembered as a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
