House of Delegates honors Louisa Extension Master Gardeners for 30 years of service
The Louisa Extension Master Gardeners were honored with Virginia House Resolution 359 (HR 359), presented by Delegate Amy Laufer, representing Virginia’s 55th District, in recognition of 30 years of service to Louisa County.
Temporary traffic signals to be installed near North Anna
On or around Aug. 26, Dominion Energy will install temporary trailer-mounted traffic signals at the intersection of Kentucky Springs Road and Johnson Road to help improve traffic safety and congestion during the upcoming North Anna Power Station refueling outages. At that intersection, located one mile west of North Anna, Johnson Road turns into Haley Drive.

Rebecca Anne Whitlock Weakley, 82, of Mineral, Virginia, died on August 5, 2026. She is survived by her sister, The Honorable Susan L. Whitlock and her husband, John J. Hammond, Sr., her devoted nieces and nephew, Amy Harris Seay (Steve), Katie Harris Miller (Jay), and Stephen C. Harris, Jr.

Brenda Thurston Utterback, 65, of Troy, Virginia passed away on August 12, 2026.
Mary Vayo
Mary Vayo, beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, peacefully passed away on July 31, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on August 25, 1934, Mary’s long life was marked by deep devotion to her family and steadfast kindness that touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Roadside History – Saint John’s Church Waldrop
St. John’s Church Waldrop overlooks the Marquis Road. It is a small classical revival building from 1845 that was built by James R. Magruder and his carpenter Malcolm Crawford. The two men are also credited with building West End, a nearby plantation house in the Green Springs National Historic Landmark District. St. John’s today serves an active congregation dedicated to its place of worship and the preservation of its place in history.
Clear the Shelters event planned Aug. 29 and more
Louisa County Animal Shelter is once again participating in Clear The Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption campaign aimed at helping shelter animals find loving homes. Suited for the whole family, the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at 18 Sacred Heart Ave, Mineral. Attendees can expect music, food trucks, a bounce house, vendors, and most importantly, free pet adoptions.
