Hygiene and cleaning kits for UMCOR

Folks from Mineral United Methodist Church came together on June 2 and packed 30 feminine hygiene kits, 230 hygiene kits and 20 cleaning kits.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) will receive the kits for distribution. They will first go to Culpeper and then to Pennsylvania where they will be stored before being distributed. UMCOR provides three different types of kits to assist with recovery.

Cleaning kits provide supplies to help individuals and families clean up after flooding, hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural disasters. Hygiene kits replace basic necessity items lost in a disaster such as toothbrushes, hand towels and soap to help persons stay clean and healthy. Menstrual hygiene kits include school supplies for children as they return to the classroom.

This has been a project of the Barton – Payne Women’s Circle for a number of years. Each year, the ladies try to increase the number of kits provided. The annual bazaar held the second Saturday in November serves as a fundraiser for this mission project as well as many local mission projects.
