In commemoration of the first steam powered train from Louisa since 1980, Virginia Scenic Railway and Virginia Museum of Transportation volunteers created a vintage photo alongside Norfolk and Western steam locomotive 611 during this past weekend’s “Summer of Steam” operated on the Virginia Scenic Railway. Shown are conductor and engineer in an iconic scene of making the required watch comparison before their run from Louisa to Gordonsville. Inspiration for this photo was from an N&W company photo taken at Cincinnati Union Station in 1946 with the same “J” Class type locomotive. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
