Gertrude Anntanette Sharp

Gertrude Anntanette Sharp, born on March 26, 1926, in Pennsylvania, celebrated life deeply through her unwavering love for family and her passion for making cherished memories. She passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, in Henrico, VA, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Sharp, Jr,; parents, Walenty Melko and, Lottie Smoczynski Melko; son, John Martin Sharp; daughters, Betty Jean Stokes-Fijol and Carolyn Melko Sharp; grandson, Kenneth Wayne Jones; daughter-in-law, Laverne Sharp; as well as her three brothers and six sisters.

A dedicated wife and mother, Gertrude is survived by her beloved daughter Christine Nichols (Marshall), and her sons, Roger Allen Sharp and Walter Louis Sharpe (Jewel); as well as her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a pillar of strength and love in their lives, guiding them with kindness and wisdom.

Gertrude’s hobbies brought her immense joy, particularly her love for gardening, sewing, and caring for her many animals. She found great fulfillment in creating beautiful quilts, crafting them with love for her grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren, and larger quilts to celebrate the marriages of her family members. Her creations will be treasured for generations, embodying the warmth of her spirit.

A woman of faith, Gertrude held a profound love for Jesus and her church family. Sundays were special to her, filled with laughter, love, and delicious dinners shared with family, a tradition she cherished dearly. She took delight in teaching her grandchildren about life in the country and the simple pleasures of fishing, sharing her knowledge and experiences with them in a way that created lasting bonds.

Gertrude’s presence in the lives of her family and friends was a gift that will be sorely missed but forever cherished. Her family will receive friends and guests for a visitation at 10 a.m. before gathering for a service at 11 a.m. at Bliley’s, 8510 Staples Mill Road, in Richmond, on Saturday, May 30. After which, she will be laid to rest privately in Louisa, VA, where her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
