TJ Book Club heads to Washington, D.C.

The TJ Book Club was formed by a group of Louisa County Teachers from Thomas Jefferson Elementary School approximately 20 years ago. Sharon Perkins, a member of the TJ Book Club, stated that many of the charter members are still active. Recently in honor of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence, the group began reading, studying and discussing the signers of this document. In addition, the group recently traveled by train to Ford’s Theatre to attend a showing of the historic musical “1776” depicting the Second Continental Congress.
Watercolor artist finds healing through painting

Road biking and watercolor art might seem like disparate hobbies, but Charlie Frances couples the two passions in a complementary way. Two years ago, Frances did a cross-state bike trip from his home of Virginia Beach to Galax for the grand reveal of his mural at a Walmart. Last week, Frances was on a biking journey from Virginia Beach to Manassas for an event hosted by the Virginia Watercolor Society, but made a pit-stop in Louisa County, spending part of May 4 and May 5 at the Dunnlora Inn in Mineral.

Bait & Stitch offers sewing classes to Louisa community

Two local Louisa sewing experts are hoping to “reel in” interested community members who either want to learn to sew for the first time or build confidence with others in a class setting. Bait & Stitch LLC, a fabric store that offers both group and private sewing classes, had its grand opening on May 16 and is located at 33 Loudin Lane.

Kay’lani Jones, a five-year-old student at Moss-Nuckols Elementary School (MNES) in Louisa County, now has a new 3D printed wheelchair thanks to staff at both the middle and high school.
