Thoughts from the Crossroads – Fort Bragg

Dear Readers, when I left you last week, Rick and I were departing our hotel in San Francisco and crossing the Golden Gate Bridge to head north. We drove the coastal highway all the way up to Fort Bragg, enjoying the scenic ocean views.

Blessed Assurance – Underestimation

Ihave recently been involved in some car care issues and have had to have “estimates” performed for the work that needed to be accomplished. This is often a harrowing process on a car with 200,000+ miles on it. The estimates for one piece of the work led to estimates for the next broken or worn-out part.

Remembering Dr. Felecia Christian

Last year, Dr. Felecia Christian, one of Louisa County Public Schools (LCPS) assistant principals/special education team members at Louisa County High School (LCHS), passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

CORRECTION

Last week’s issue of The Central Virginian incorrectly stated the end date for the six-week road closure and detour on Route 33. It should have read the closure is expected to last from June 15 to July 31.

Protecting bird wildlife

The Belmont Club of Women held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Our guest speaker Elizabeth Haynes gave a presentation entitled “Seven Simple Actions to Help Songbirds”. Her interest in song birds started in 2019 and their nature shop, Wildbirds Unlimited in Culpepper, opened in 2023.

Louisa Chamber hosts 41st Businessperson of the Year ceremony

Established more than 40 years ago by the Louisa County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Businessperson of the Year award honors local individuals whose exceptional business leadership leaves a lasting impact throughout the region.
