Amazon’s New Home in Louisa County

When you stream a movie, pull up driving directions or connect with a doctor through telehealth, there’s physical infrastructure behind all of it. And increasingly, that infrastructure is right here in Louisa County. Amazon’s roots in Virginia go back to 2006. Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than $190 billion across the Commonwealth, including infrastructure and compensation to our employees. And we have created more than 45,000 full- and part-time jobs. In Louisa, we’ve put more than $1 billion into data center infrastructure so far, supporting more than 1,850 jobs annually and contributing an estimated $376 million to the local GDP, and we are just getting started.

That investment strengthens the county’s tax base, which shows up in school budgets, road improvements, and the public services Louisa families rely on every day. Last month, Louisa County’s leaders reduced personal property tax rates, citing economic growth driven in part by Amazon’s infrastructure investments.

Building this infrastructure is a local effort. Alongside our construction partner, Clark Technologies, more than 1,200 workers from Mineral, Louisa, Gordonsville, and across the region come on site each day at peak construction. One data center has already reached substantial completion, and the campus continues to grow. These are skilled, good-paying roles filled by people who live here.

Now we’re marking a new milestone. Amazon has opened its first Campus Administration Building (CAB), located right here in Louisa County. The CAB is a permanent base for the team that keeps our data centers running, designed to seat up to 350 full-time Amazonians.

It serves as a centralized hub for campus operations such as design engineering, human resources, security, and safety. It’s built with conference rooms, a coworking space, a cafeteria, and internal training labs.

Those training labs mean prior data center experience isn’t required to walk through the door. This will allow us to do on-site training and development. We also work with local schools and Virginia workforce programs to make sure Louisa residents have a clear path to high-tech careers without having to leave the county to find them.

And our commitment to Louisa goes beyond jobs. We recently sat down with the Louisa Alumni Association because we believe the best way to support a community is to back the people already doing the work. Our employees live here, they volunteer here, and their kids go to school here. So, when we think about where to invest, we start by listening to the folks who know this community best.

The CAB is a first for Amazon, but it won’t be the last investment we make here. As this campus grows, so does our scale to positively impact the community around it.
