Women of Louisa County
The Belmont Club of Women held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. Our guest speaker was Katelyn Coughlan of the Louisa County Historical Society. Her presentation was entitled “Women of Louisa County”. She spoke about many topics, i.e. women’s history, immigrants, the revolution for Central Virginia, Jack Jouett’s historical ride from Cuckoo to Monticello and much more. She also provided interesting maps showing the area years ago vs. now and the homes in those areas. She had many historical documents, pictures to share, but interestingly she didn’t have info to display/share for women’s history (which was the title of her presentation!). She explained that many of the women maintained everything when their husbands were gone, but they were never acknowledged via historical documentation because they were women.

Blessed Assurnace – Getting even
It doesn’t take too long in our lives before the first time we are wronged by another person. Maybe we’re not chosen when picking sides for kickball, maybe the teacher makes an example of us for things others were doing, maybe we’re not chosen for a job advancement because we’re not as well connected politically as another candidate, maybe our girlfriend or boyfriend dumps us for someone else. No matter what the cause, in our hurt we can often want to “get even” with the person who wronged us. Revenge is a normal human reaction to being hurt by another and contemplating how we are going to get even distracts us from our woundedness.

It is Time to Give Yourself a Raise! The Thomas Jefferson Adult Career Education (TJACE) @pvcc the Louisa Center located at 115 Jefferson Highway (Sage Building, Suite 108 and 109) is announcing that the 202627 GED preparation classes and Computer Skills Lab will start August 10, 2026 with registration and classes to begin August 24, 2026. Please call (540) 938-4729, for an appointment to register. Classes are Monday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Online learning is an option to fit different schedules. You must come in-person to register.

Thelma Price Jackson was called to eternal rest on July 12, 2026 at Louisa Health and Rehab Center, Louisa, VA. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Gerald Frederick Daltan
The Honorable Gerald F. Daltan (Ret.), 82, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, in Austin, Texas. Judge Daltan, known to his friends as Gerry, served as a district court judge in the 15th Judicial Circuit of Virginia from 2005 until 2013. Prior to his service with the court, he was a private practice attorney with the law firm of Scott, Daltan and Van Lear, in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
