Thanking first responders

On September 11, a group of about 50 Louisa County Public Schools (LCPS) students presented cards to first responders at the Lake Anna Food Lion, thanking them for their courage to serve their local community. Students from all four elementary schools created and distributed more than 400 cards on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

LCHS Class of 1957 reunites

The Louisa County High School (LCHS) Class of 57’ met August 14, 2026, to celebrate their 69th year Reunion! While the attendance was small, this group had a blast and enjoyed lunch, sharing stories and catching up! Our class of 68 members leaves us 19 members and 12 had planned to attend but with a couple of emergencies, only seven were able to come. Group leaders stated they are already looking forward to next year. Those attending were: (L) Alice Lloyd Plageman, Fred Vawter, Carolyn Trainum Brookman. (R) Margaret Grimm Wood, Harvey Fleshman, Nancy Woolfolk Agee and Emma Jean Johnson Stevens.

Potluck in the Park

At the end of the September 10 meeting, community members talked about an upcoming event, a potluck at the Whitlock Family Park on Sunday, September 20 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Residents who live in the Town of Mineral are encouraged to attend and bring lawn chairs and food.

Through October 10 Attention area singers: The Louisa Community Chorus is planning a Christmas concert this year. Come have fun and serve your community in song!

9-11 remembrance ceremony scheduled

Louisa County’s 9-11 ceremony will be held this year in Courthouse Square on the morning of Friday, September 11. The ceremony will start at 8:46 am to commemorate the time the north tower was struck and will end at 9:03 am to commemorate when the south tower was subsequently hit. The public is invited to attend and reflect on the impact of September 11 on American history, honor those lost, and recognize the dedication, bravery, and brotherhood of first responders.

Blessed Assurance – Rest

Anyone who knows me understands that I’m a fairly Type-A, driven individual. It has always been how I am wired and I have done well in my careers because of that way of functioning. However, that way of functioning has also led to symptoms of burnout and to an understanding that I can’t just go full throttle all the time without some rest and relaxation. Working too much in a high stress ICU environment helped me to understand my need for a different narrative that could heal the psychological wounds I was carrying from all the injuries and deaths I witnessed.

Well folks, it’s September. That means pumpkin spice flavor is everywhere for the next couple of months. When Starbucks debuted the pumpkin spice latte in 2003, the drink not only became a national phenomenon, but it sparked pumpkin spice flavored versions of practically everything. Yep, Pandora’s box had been opened.
