Lawrence Allen Martin
Lawrence Allen Martin, of Culpeper, VA, passed away on March 29, 2026, at the age of 74 due to complications from acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
He was born on June 22, 1951, in Arlington, VA, to E. Frank Martin and Augusta J. Martin, both now deceased. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda A. (LaFond) Martin, his children, Lee A. Martin and wife Rhoda E. Martin, Lara A. (Martin) Hall and husband D. Kyle Hall, and Lindsay A. Martin; four grandchildren, Molly, Richie, Maggie, and Chip; two brothers, Augustus F. Martin and wife Maureen of Winchester, VA, and Thomas Martin and wife Betty of Martinsburg, WV; brother-in-law, Charles D. LaFond; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Larry was a craftsman and avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a very easy-going man and a quick-witted puzzle aficionado who shared his love of words, woodcrafts, and the outdoors with his family and many, many friends. In the 1960’s, his father built a home on Kent Island, MD, where he and his family would visit just about every weekend, and for weeks at a time during the summer months.
Larry enjoyed and coordinated a plethora of bass fishing tournaments and, in 2012, he founded the Veterans Day Fishing Tournament held annually at Lake Anna, VA. For over a decade, he secured community and corporate support and remained committed to honoring veterans with this special event that continues to grow today. He studied architecture and was a member of the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, VA, which is where he met Linda. He started his career with Draper & Sons before joining the family business, Martin & Gass, Inc. He later moved on to The John Driggs Company, then started his own excavation business.
Larry touched the lives of so many during his time with us, and he will be missed dearly.
A Celebration of Life service for Larry will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Leukemia Research Foundation.
