Edith Sylvia Hamm Bickley

Edith Sylvia Hamm Bickley, also known as “Mamma E” or “Gammie”, 84, of Louisa County went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2026, at UVA Hospital. She was born on April 2, 1942, to the late John and Irene Hamm of Pendleton. She was raised by the late Terrell and Vera Payne of Louisa.

Edith was preceded in death by her two sons, Carlton Bickley and Steven Bickley, both of Louisa, her brothers, Clarence, Roland, Joe, and John Hamm, and a sister, Mae Wolfrey.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Marion Bickley, two daughters, Tammy Dodson of Madison, and Teresa Cheshire of Louisa, and a son, Jason Bickley (Sandy) of Bumpass. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Proffitt, a special brother, Donnie Seay (Molly), a sister-in-law, Nelda Perkins, and a brother-in-law, Calvin Bickley (Joyce).

Edith loved her family and friends, especially her ten grandchildren, Amanda Cheshire, Chris Cheshire (Brittany), Steven Bickley (Christina), Logan Dodson, Meagan Bickley, Erica Bickley, Derrick Bickley (Melissa), Jessica Bickley, and J.T. Bickley, as well as her seven greatgrandchildren, Peyton Cheshire, Lydia Cheshire, Trenton Bickley, Aubrey Bickley, Karlee Bickley, Grayson Dodson, and Millie Bickley. She loved children and was a dedicated child care provider for over 41 plus years in her home.

The family would like to thank the Louisa Health and Rehab and its employees who made Edith feel so loved and cared for. To the nurses, Doctors, and staff at UVA Hospital, 4th floor West, for not only taking care of “Mamma E” these last 5 days, but taking care of us, her family. WE are truly thankful she was in your loving care.

Visitation with the family will be held at Woodward Funeral Home on 5/21/2026 at 10 am followed by the service beginning at 11 am, with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
