Rewilded Market holds grand opening

Rewilded Market, a new storefront at 119 West Main Street in the Town of Louisa for local dog owners to find products that support their pets’ wellness, had their ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony on June 6.
Louisa resident Christie Scully is the managing partner of the Louisa location. Rewilded Market also has a location in Fredericksburg in Woof Houze, a dog training and daycare center. Scully emphasized that Rewilded Market focuses on three tiers — wellness, instinct and community.
The goal of wellness is to increase the pet’s lifespan and overall health, Scully said. Regarding instinct, she said it’s moti- vating dogs to get their brains thinking and moving, whether it’s chewing, digging, or sniffing. With community, she said it’s educating the local residents via puppy course classes or work dog training.
“Pets, nowadays especially, are more than just a household pet —- they are our furbabies!” Scully said, the owner of four shepherds.
Rewilded Market is a women and veteran-owned small business. The store is advertised as dog-friendly and has a space in the back of the store where dogs can play with toys or meet other dogs.
Adia Washington is the Founder of Rewilded Market and a Canine Behavior Specialist with Woof Houze Canine Coaching & Wellness. Washington said she noticed a beautiful town with lots of dogs and a lack of things for them to do.
“Our goal with Rewilded Market is to bring back proper wellness and instinctual aspects of play and nutrition as well as community,” Washington said. “You can go into a pet store, but you can’t go somewhere that can guide you. Just like us, life span is important. The way we do that is by putting the right things into our body. Even coming down to what dogs chew — not plastic but safe wood — we give them an instinctual way to get back to themselves again.”
Pictured on the walls are dogs of employees as well as animals that have gone through local rescues, Washington said, which is a testament to their commitment to helping dog owners do what’s best for their pets.
“I understand that this is for dogs, but we want the community to know this is for them too,” Washington. “The most important part of the relationship in having a dog is being educated and knowing what’s best for your dog, not the dog.”
